The Ninth Serving of SoundCream Light is for The Return of High Church: Revival! Last year’s April SoundCream release is a favorite and features the gospel sound that first drew me in to house music. Easter is my favorite holiday for its pastel hues, totally camp aesthetic, and welcoming of spring. And nothing caps off the holiday weekend like a good sermon on the dance floor to get you blessed and highly favored. This serving is my freshest one yet with over half the tracks having been released in the last six months and many of them in 2023. The most recent IDs go to, “Praise,” by Dale Move, released on March 3, as well as, “Gotta Be Real,” by Fletcher Kerr, released on March 10 and included on Toolroom Record’s Miami 2023 compilation album, which is released annually for the Winter Music Conference. Another fresh track, “World of House,” comes from the legendary “Minister of Sound" Ron Carroll, along with Tobias Kraemer and Steven Sugar Harding – who now identifies as a former member of Milk & Sugar according to his Insta bio.
The opening track, “Feels Like,” features the vocal stylings of Detroit’s Queen of the Blues, Thornetta Davis, and truly sets the tone for what this serving should feel like. When I did my interview with the Legends of Detroit, we discussed the soulful origins of house music, and it is my hope that this set speaks to your soul and uplifts you as we enter spring. Enjoy.
