MILK & HONEY NYE.

Listen to my Milk & Honey NYE set here.

A little more than a year ago, our BHM DJ collective was discussing an event our DJ dad, Coco, had been wanting to produce prior to 2020, and he felt the time was right to revisit it. He wanted to start a new queer dance party with an emphasis on safe space where the local scene could be expressive and celebrated. I thought it would be an uphill battle to make this event successful, and would require us to break social patterns to get a dance floor moving and shaking in full vibration with what was envisioned. This would be one of the very few times I will ever admit to being incredibly wrong.

Milk & Honey has received astounding support and turned the party in its first year more than I could have hoped, with six sold out bi-monthly shows at Saturn. That success is owed to the DJ collective that dug in their heels, moved, and grooved across Birmingham over the years to prepare the way for an event like M&H. This includes, but is not limited to: Coco, Tony Rodio, Mellow Mellon, Andrea Really, and Stevo Blaque. This is the group that welcomed me as I had to find my place in Birmingham again; a place I never actually had previously. Birmingham is much different than when I left for NYC. I’m astounded by the artistry we have concentrated here. Something interesting is happening in Alabama, y’all.

When I was preparing my NYE set for M&H, I knew I wanted to provide a very clear sound of what moves me with a focus on the queer/femme/POC artists that have shaped all of us, past and present. This set is stacked with the likes of Honey Dijon, David Bowie, Maxinne, Inaya Day, Peter Napoli, Monki, Todd Terry, Cakes da Killa, Peter Rauhofer, David Ohana Aviance, Kevin Aviance, Sylvester, Jess Bays, and BIIANCO.

My message any time I take the decks is simple: finding the light in your darkness. It was an honor to take this packed dance floor into the new year with music that I hope left them feeling renewed from when they entered our doors. To everyone that has contributed their time, talents, and attendance to Milk & Honey; we thank you. To everyone that has supported me in this chapter, I thank you. The sun keeps on rising. Enjoy.
