SOUNDCREAM LIGHT | SERVING EIGHTEEN.

Serving Eighteen of SoundCream Light is the fourth annual edition of High Church: Revival. Featuring the sounds I resonate with most, this spring set is always intended to reinvigorate and energize. This year, it felt especially important to provide a hopeful message as we fully enter another precarious time in the history we are living. Darkness rears its head yet again, and I see so many people drained of their spark. Fighting for what is right is a long game, and it is perseverance that wins in the end. When the enemy sows discord and chaos at every turn, it is meant to exhaust you. So this spring, I urge you to look at the fighters before us and the long battles they fought throughout their many years. I implore you to also remember to recharge your light. Find moments of joy near you. We will create space for you to escape, but don’t get lost in the darkness. Follow your North Star and stay on your Path.
I am pleased to highlight a few fresh releases, starting with the opener, “Give Me Desire,” from femme collaborators Alex Mills and ESSEL via Toolroom this January, followed by, “We Are Free,” released on March 7 with HouseU from a consistent favorite of mine, Earth n Days. That same day, we also received, “Sunshine 2025,” from the outstanding Hot Since 82, alongside Tomaz and Filterheadz. During this closing track, you will also hear the voice of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., during what would become his final Sunday Sermon, “I've Been to the Mountaintop,” delivered on April 3, 1968, at Mason Temple in Memphis, Tennessee, the day before his assassination. The excerpts you will hear from are here:
“If I had sneezed I wouldn't have been here in 1963, when the black people of Birmingham, Alabama, aroused the conscience of this nation, and brought into being the Civil Rights Bill. If I had sneezed, I wouldn't have had a chance later that year, in August, to try to tell America about a dream that I had had. If I had sneezed, I wouldn't have been down in Selma, Alabama, to see the great Movement there. If I had sneezed, I wouldn't have been in Memphis to see a community rally around those brothers and sisters who are suffering.” -
“Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountaintop. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land!” - Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.
May this spring bring you strength and hope. Enjoy.
