EDDIE MARTINEZ.

A master of energy, rhythm, and vibe, Eddie has mesmerized dance floors around the world, performing in premier venues across Europe, Asia, South America, and North America. His international appeal and high-impact sound have secured him headlining slots at globally renowned events and festivals, including Winter Party Festival, Market Days Chicago, RAPIDO Amsterdam, The Black Party, Masterbeat, Angels Zurich, Songkran Thailand, Discover Tokyo, HIM & GYM Club in Seoul, Revolution Party Brazil, Santiago Chile, WE Party, and many more – solidifying his role as a global tastemaker in electronic music.

Eddie Martinez was one of the first great DJs of New York City that stood out to me when I first arrived there. His name on the flyer was a guarantee on the social calendar. His deep percussive sound that bridges Big Room with intimate energy speaks to the dancer. Ever after his move to LA, conversations with my friends that ask who is a quintessential NYC DJ still agree on at least one name – Eddie Martinez.

One of my favorite NYC memories is World Pride 2019 during Verve Afterhours by Eddie Elias with Eddie Martinez, the two Eddies. Martinez opened for a quaint 10-ish hours, I believe? As we arrived, I will always remember him in the booth at the former Analog Brooklyn, flanked by the hanging booth monitors, and framing that image in my mind as what it means to be a New York City DJ.

With five albums under his belt as a producer and a global résumé to boot, Eddie Martinez continues to evolve through the music while retaining a signature imprint on all his work.

DXD:  How would you best describe your sound?

EM: I would describe my sound as fun, sexy, bouncy, and eclectic.

DXD: How did you get your start in nightlife/dance music?

EM: I started going out in NYC at a very young age, back when the big clubs were thriving and hot. Roxy, Crobar, etc. I fell in love with the music, the energy, and the house music community at that time.

DXD: Your work has taken you across the globe for a full range of events. Tell us about a place where the dance floor and you resonate strongly.

EM: I have been grateful to many amazing events across the globe; every place has their own special vibe and energy. Some places that also make me feel great vibes and always has good energy on the dance floor are my home in NYC and Toronto. A lot of cities have changed a lot, but NYC and Toronto for me are always a great vibe.

DXD: How do you feel your travels over the years have influenced the way you spin/produce today?

EM: I feel they have taught me how to read different rooms better, which is a key component to being a good DJ.

DXD: As a producer, you have released five albums since 2014. What do you feel is the common thread across all five albums that represents your vision as a producer?

EM: They all represent things I like to express and that are a part of me – love, sex, music, and a good time!

DXD: Of your expansive discography, tell us about a particular track that holds special meaning to you.

EM: One that holds special meaning to me is “THE PARTY.” It was a  track that became big and played across the globe and still to this day people quote me on it. Also creating the track with Josephine was such a blast. Good memories.

DXD: You recently launched your new record label, BODYCTRL. What led you to take this next big step?

EM: My contract for my previous label “Stimulus Recordings” was up and I was dealing with a very difficult distribution company, which ended up stripping my entire catalog without notice, so at the time everything was stripping away in a sense. I wanted to start something fresh with a whole new brand with more professional people behind me.

DXD: As an artist that has been challenging the way this industry views you, what do you have to say to other artists aiming to stay true to themselves?

EM: You must stay true to yourself. Block out the noise. Never stop learning and honing your craft.

DXD: Is there a set/track/artist that has been inspiring you lately?

EM: I'm inspired by a lot, but especially a lot of the music coming out of the UK and Europe.

DXD: It’s Saturday night and you’re not at a gig, what are you doing to have fun?

EM: A joint, bottle of wine, and some good food.

DXD: What are three things you love to see at parties?

EM: People dancing, smiling, and having a good time.

DXD: Where can folks catch you spinning soon?

EM: I’ll be in Philly, Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, and some international cities soon! I hope to see you.
