SOUNDCREAM | SERVING TWENTYONE.
SoundCream is a Harder & Stronger Mixture of House, Tech House, and Techno.
Music for Saturday Nights.
Serving TwentyOne of SoundCream is for Fierceness. As the autumnal equinox takes us into fall, the intensity of our world during this season of the harvest calls for us to release what no longer serves us and gather our strength. It should be clearer than ever that nothing is coming to deliver us from evil other than our collective energy and organization. It is time to get Fierce.
My first highlight of this serving is for Carl Craig per the inclusion of this edit of “Good Life,” which was released on Inner City’s 30 Years EP in 2019. My favorite weekend in Birmingham is without a doubt the Sidewalk Film Festival that occurs every August. On the Sunday morning, I was able to see, “Desire: The Carl Craig Story,” which took you from the techno pioneer’s beginnings in Detroit being mentored by The Belleville Three to sharing his gifts across the entire world. The screening took place in The Dorothy Jemison Day Theater at ASFA with an introduction from Byron the Aquarius and the sound in that space did wonderful justice to the film’s score featuring original productions all by Carl Craig. It is a documentary that needs to be enjoyed with a sound system and I highly recommend it to anyone that takes refuge in electronic music.
The freshest ID for this serving comes by way of my hero, Peter Napoli, for his contribution to this September’s release of remixes with Swishcraft Music for the rework of Prince’s “D.M.S.R.,” produced by Andy Allder and Rush Rich with vocals by Debby Holiday. “Sunbed Tripper,” by Hilit Kolet featuring Juliet Mendoza is a special inclusion for my recent gig on the West Coast, taking me from Santa Barbara down to LA where I was able to hear Juliet play in Gloria Molina Grand Park for Sunday Sessions. I was blown away by this event that brings dance music to the community in such a big way in a weekend that very much shifted my perspective on California. I look forward to being back. I also have to shoutout “CELESTE,” by Jesus Montañez, which further illustrates his versatility in sound that has always made him a standout for me.
Find strength in community this fall and protect it fiercely. We have to count on ourselves to do what is right. Enjoy.
